ANDREW FERNANDEZ, STRENGTH COACH

Andrew ‘Dezy’ was born in Scarborough but moved to Thunder Bay when he was three and has called it home ever since.  He played hockey and soccer growing up until 17 when he needed to make the decision of choosing one sport and sticking with it.  Ultimately choosing hockey, he headed to Manitoba to play his junior career.  While playing with the Selkirk Steelers of the MJHL, Dezy received an athletic scholarship to play at Northern Michigan University which is located in Marquette, Michigan.

Graduating in 2011 with a degree in Health and Fitness Management, Dezy quickly pursued career options in the health and fitness industry.  He worked at The Athletic Club here in Thunder Bay from 2011-2013 as a Fitness Consultant and a Personal Trainer.

In the summer of 2012, Dezy had an opportunity of a lifetime when he was accepted to complete an internship with Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning in Boston, Mass.  A vast amount of knowledge was brought back with him to complete his second year of employment at The Athletic Club as a Personal Trainer.

During the 2013-2014 academic year, he was hired by Northern Michigan University as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Men’s Hockey and Basketball teams.

He has now returned to his hometown and joined up with Paul and THRIVE Strength & Wellness.  “I am very excited to have this opportunity to grow this company into an elite facility for both athletes and non-athletes.”
